How To Replace Your Umbrella Canopy

How To Replace Your Umbrella Canopy

Even good quality patio umbrella canopies can fade or become stained over time, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to throw the entire umbrella out. If your patio umbrella frame is in good condition you may be able to replace the umbrella fabric. Plus it’s a good time to try on a new color for your deck or patio!

How To Replace Your Umbrella Canopy
  1.  Octagonal diameters are measured point-to-point, not side-to-side.
  2.  Square and rectangles are measured by the length of sides.
  3.  Identify the size and shape of your umbrella canopy
    1. When closed, the canopy of a 9’ umbrella ends just above the crank housing.
    2. When closed, the canopy of a 7’5’ umbrella ends about a foot above the crank housing.
    3. When closed, the canopy of an 11′   covers the crank housing.
  4. If a new canopy is needed and you are unsure of the size, measure the length of one rib.  It will be very close to half the total size.  So a 9’ umbrella has ribs that are just under 4.5’ long.
  5. For replacement ribs:
    1. Octagons have 8 of the same length.
    2. Squares have 4 long and 4 short ribs (long goes to the corner, short to the side).
    3. Rectangles have 3 lengths (long to the corner, medium to the short side, and short to the long side).

Caution: many replacement umbrella canopies are made to order and therefore, not able to be exchanged or returned. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully and if you have any doubts on whether or not you are ordering the right fit, reach out to the experts on our Customer Care team to confirm.
