Bauer International
Bauer International occupies a unique niche as an importer and designer
of British and Dutch Colonial plantation furniture from both the East
and West Indies. Founded by Ken and Dee Ann Bauer, a youthful
husband-and-wife team with a passion for travel, adventure and exquisite
furniture, the company's overall collection spans a multitude of styles
and eras -- from the late 1600s, when colonists first set foot in
Indonesia, to the celebrated 19th-century British social clubs of India
to the sprawling Colonial plantations of the Caribbean.
Original antiques from across the centuries provide the inspiration for
each Bauer collection. Moreover, the company works closely with local
artisans around the world to ensure that the final products remain
faithful to their roots. The Plantation Teak Collection, for example,
harkens back to the Colonial estates of the 1800s. Each piece is
produced using the same wood-working techniques of the original master
craftsmen.
Indeed, Bauer is faithful to the techniques of every style and period
featured in its collection. Each piece is carefully hand-crafted and
hand-caned from plantation-grown, reforested teak and then shipped to
the U.S., where it is finished and ultimately sold.
